Discover East Cambridge and East Cambridge real estate with Realtor Charles Cherney.
East Cambridge is bordered on the north by Somerville, on the east by the Charles River, on the south by Broadway and on the west by the Grand Junction tracks. Kendall Square can also be thought of as part of East Cambridge, especially as the Third Street and Broad Canal area develops as a neighborhood north of Broadway.
Most of the streets of East Cambridge form a grid. Cambridge Street is the main commercial and retail street in the northern part of the grid.

New Deal Fish Market - a family owned and operated fresh fish market since 1928.

Middlesex County Courthouse area
Many buyers and sellers in Cambridge and Somerville and beyond will know this area, as the Middlesex Country Registry of Deeds is found here. Many closings take place at the Registry itself. As you might expect, numerous law offices are located in the area.
The former Edward J. Sullivan Courthouse is the tallest building in Cambridge. Now empty, it is slated for redevelopment. Many would like to see it imploded! It's hard to believe it ever got built in the first place. Until very recently, a jail was located on the upper floors!
Multicultural Arts Center on Second Street - The Multicultural Art Center is a non-profit corporation founded in 1978 as an arts center focused on helping diverse populations better understand one another. In 1985 they moved into their new home at 41 Second Street. The mission is to present multicultural visual and performing arts programs to educate the community about diversity, and make their facility available to artists or groups that might not otherwise have access to a professionally equipped facility or the cultural mainstream.
Lechmere Square and Lechmere Station
The intersection of Cambridge Street and First Street is sometimes referred to as Lechmere Square. Lechmere Station is found here, offering Green Line T service to Boston. North Station is just two stops away. The easiest way to get to TD Garden from Cambridge for a Celtics or Bruins game is to hop on the Green Line at Lechmere.
A number of offices are located along First Street, including the following:
HubSpot in The Davenport building. Hubspot had their IPO in 2014. Inbound marketing specialists.
CustomMade.com is located further down the block. CustomMade.com brings you custom furniture, home decor, and unique jewelry, made by some of the most talented makers in the world.
Cambridge Art and Frame, voted best frame shop in Cambridge - visit Custom Art and Frame at 101 First Street or online at CambridgeArtandFrame.com.
Canal Park and the Cambridgeside Galleria
With over 120 shops and restaurants, the Cambridgeside Galleria is the one major mall in Cambridge. You'll find all the usual mall stores here. My favorite stop is the Apple Store!
On the back side of the Galleria is Canal Park, centered on a water fountain and home to offices and a condo complex known as Thomas Graves Landing. Find your way to the water for the Charles River Boat Co., offering rides along the Charles River to Harvard Square and back.
